New York Metro Event at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Yocum Sailing Center
The NY Metro section hosted the October meeting at the beautiful, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Yocum Sailing Center. Lina Tenenbaum, Sustainability Engineer, provided a wonderful presentation on sustainability from the perspective of a shipping company. Lina Tenenbaum works as a Lead Sustainability Engineer at International Seaways, a tanker owner headquartered in New York City.
The presentation introduced (ESG) Environmental, Social and corporate Governance as a tool to assist organizations on their sustainability journey. ESG principles were investigated from a tanker owner's perspective. The Environmental section dove into the uncertainties and available solutions surrounding maritime decarbonization; the social section covered people-focused topics and how a shipping company responds and adapts to global disruption; and the Governance section discussed the policies and strategies that organizations adopt to uphold their sustainability principles. There were over 35 people in-person attendance with 10 attending remotely on-line. A great evening was had by all!
