Gulf Section Senior Design Night
On April 18th, the Gulf Section hosted the University of New Orleans’ Senior Design Night at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans. Section Chair Susan Noste had the honor of introducing special guest SNAME President Rick Spaulding to the group. President Spaulding shared valuable insights from his extensive shipbuilding career with the seniors.
Dr. David Bourg, the students’ professor, introduced the three innovative projects developed by student groups: a high-speed USCG cutter (Cole Picou, David Parker, Jansen Pellegrin), a fireboat catamaran (Alexander Lulich, David Dempsey, Kyle Falbo, Michelle Denova), and a racing vessel (Austin Threlkeld, Katie Spetter, Tamera Lepore, Wilfredo Vega).
The event attracted approximately 100 attendees, comprising students, family members, educators, and industry professionals. The audience engaged actively, posing insightful questions and offering valuable feedback to the students. The evening concluded with a special presentation of commemorative SNAME Gulf Section glasses to the seniors, Rick Spaulding, and Dr. Bourg in recognition of their contributions to the successful event.
