Midshipmen, Faculty, Staff, and Professionals:

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) has a proud tradition of training the next generation of officers for future service in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps.  Though many of these officers will serve in unique warfare communities, the United States Naval Academy continues to provide unparalleled opportunities and education to those midshipmen currently studying naval architecture.  In direct collaboration with excellent classroom instruction, the SNAME Student Section at the United States Naval Academy serves as a means to accomplish the following:

- The provision of a social / professional network of midshipmen, faculty, and professional naval architects to better support classroom activities.

- The provision of mentorship opportunities to support independent research within the field of naval architecture.

- The provision of electronic resources and publications to better support classroom education and independent research within the field of naval architecture.

- The ability to participate in community-outreach efforts, to include the SeaPerch program (sponsored by the Office of Naval Research) and other comparable activities.

Although the Student Section continues to evolve, its core competencies and strategic vision remain constant.  The Student Section continues to rely extensively on the involvement of midshipmen and faculty.  Without sufficient participation and active recruitment, the Student Section cannot serve the Brigade of Midshipmen or the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.  Ultimately, the SNAME Student Section at the United States Naval Academy exists to provide future naval officers with a well-rounded background in naval architecture.  Thank you very much for your past, present, and future participation in all Student Section activities and events!

                Very Respectfully,

                MIDN Alexander Laun, USN
