WAVE-TANK STUDIES OF NONLINEAR GRAVITY WAVES

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers has published the technical report Wave-Tank Studies of Nonlinear Gravity Waves: Comparisons with a Model for Sums of Interacting Long-Crested Stokes Waves on Deep Water.

This report describes experiments undertaken to study nonlinear waves. Sums of sine waves with different frequencies were used to drive a wave generator. The nonlinear interactions that resulted were compared with a model for different combinations of input amplitudes and frequencies. The results are analyzed. Suggestions for further research are included.

The publication is identified as Technical and Research Report R-52. It is a 170-page report issued as a CD. It may be ordered through the SNAME web site (www.sname.org) or by contacting Claudio Pujols (cpujols@sname.org or 201-798-4800, x-3044) for $50 ($25 for SNAME members).
