Welcome all to the SUNY Maritime
SNAME Section web page. My name is
Noble Davidson, the current Section Chair for our student section here at
Maritime. I just want to say a few
quick things about what SNAME means to us as students, and what your membership
can do for you.
Like just about anything else in
the world today, your SNAME membership is all about what you make of it. If you put in the time to go to
meetings, get involved with committees, and seek leadership opportunities; you
will be astonished with what the society can give back. Many students join for discounts on
text or a nice dinner, which is all fine; however, it’s important to remember
that if you really want to get things out of SNAME, it is important that you
involve yourself. Things as simple
as joining programming committees can get you on the phone or in face to face
conversation with some of the top engineers and executives in our industry.
Aside from the standard reasons for
being a member, such as: networking, discounts, and job fairs; there are
opportunities to obtain scholarships, travel the country/world, collaborate
with peers, tour shipyards or offices, and so much more.
I welcome you all to explore our new site and look into the
committee’s section to seek involvement opportunities. Never hesitate to ask
for advice from any of the student officers listed under the “Leadership” tab
of the site.
Thank you,
Noble Davidson
