The
Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers annually
awards Graduate scholarships to encourage study in naval architecture,
marine engineering, ocean engineering or marine industry related
fields. U.S./Canadian graduate scholarship applicants must
study in approved institutions in the U.S., Canada, or abroad,
while non-U.S./Canadian graduate applicants must study in
approved U.S. or Canadian schools.

Application Guidelines and Procedures:
- Open
to U. S., Canadian, and International applicants.
- Society
membership required by October 1 of year prior to application.
- Awards
are made for one year of study leading to a Master's Degree
in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering
or in fields directly related to the marine industry.
- Applicants
must not receive their Masters Degree prior to October 1
of the year in which they are applying for their scholarship.
- Graduate
scholarships are awarded to an individual only once.
- Application
may be downloaded from the SNAME web site or obtained by
written request to the attention of the Chair, Scholarships
Committee, at the Society's address.
- Applicants
are required to provide GRE scores regardless of graduate
school admission requirements.
- The
Scholarships Committee must receive application prior to
February 1st with all supporting data by February 15th for
review by the Scholarships Committee.
- Selection
in April based upon recommendations of Scholarships Committee
and approval by the Executive Committee.
- Non
- U.S. or Canadian citizens must plan to study in U.S. or
Canadian schools.
Scholarship
Value
Up to $12,000
per year.
At least
6 awards are made annually, four of which are designated as
follows:

- The William M. Kennedy Scholar

- The Tommy L. Richards Scholar

In addition
to the above named scholarships, a new named scholarship
in honor of the late John V. Wehausen, an internationally
recognized authority on ship hydrodynamics and wave theory,
will be first awarded in 2008 for advanced study in his
field. Applicants may apply for the new scholarship as well
as one of the above named by submitting applications for
both in accordance with the instructions provided on the
