Class Rules - SailBot 2012
Building on the success of previous SailBot regattas, SailBot 2012, the North American competition for robotic sailboats will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club from 11-14 June 2012! The competition is open to the 2 meter SailBot Class and an Open Class (which are boats up to 4 meters in length - see the Class Rules for the actual requirements of each class).
The competition will consist of five events to test various aspects of the design, construction and control logic.
- Fleet Racing (manual rudder and/or sail control incurs no points penalty)
- Station keeping to test logic (manual control incurs 50% points penalty)
- Autonomous navigation contest to test precision (no manual control allowed).
- Judges evaluation of a presentation on the design, construction and innovation
- Long Distance Race (manual control incurs 50% points penalty)
As in the past, there is no entry fee!
The nearest airport with commercial service is Vancouver International (YVR). It is around a 25 minute drive from the sailing site. In addition, the skytrain and public transit are excellent ways to get to and from the sailing site. Check out the Housing and Travel section above.
The weather in Vancouver in mid-June is generally mild but can easily be wet, with temperatures between 15-20C. Winds can be 0-30 knots. In other words, expect pretty much anything.
