Each
month, starting September 1, 2006 we will survey our membership
via our SNAMeNewsLetter.
There will be one question regarding a general topic of interest
to the maritime community or a SNAME benefit or service. Members’
responses will be tallied and reported in the mid-month SNAMeNewsLetter
and recorded on this page.
Check
back often! Our SOS
will continue the success we experienced in our 2006 Member
Value Survey and give our members the opportunity to provide
input for program and service development as well as strategic
direction and industry issues.
Thank
you – Look for the SOS,
and participate!

Membership Categories
The
SOS question last month in regard to membership categories
received our strongest response yet to an SOS question!
The
SNAME Executive Committee is considering a change to the bylaws
that would eliminate the competence and experience requirements
that distinguish the different grades of membership: Member
and Associate Member. This would essentially reduce our membership
categories to Fellow, Member, Affiliate, and Student. Would
you support such a change?
- 68%
responding indicated that they would support a change
- 32%
opposed a change
The
discussion has sparked much positive reflection on the rigueur
of the professional status and education required, as well
as an acknowledgement that our stature as a professional society
is enhanced by the quality of the membership. Look for more
information in future issues of eNews.
