Republic of Georgia Coast Guard Technical Assistance Project

The Northern California Section met with the Golden Gate Section of ASNE in October at El Torito Restaurant in San Leandro, CA. The social hour and dinner preceding the program afforded an enjoyable opportunity for members of the professional societies and students from the University of California, Berkeley and California Maritime Academy to share recent experiences, including their participation in activities at the 2004 SNAME Maritime Technology Conference and Exposition in Washington, DC two weeks earlier.

The program presented by LT Christopher Milkie, USCG, Industrial Manager, Integrated Support Command, Alameda, related his personal experiences in a technical assistance project conducted under the auspices of a U.S. Coast Guard border security program. The objective of the project was to assist Republic of Georgia Coast Guard engineers in developing the ship repair and conversion requirements and statements of work for converting Soviet-era Griff Patrol boats to multi-mission capable coast guard vessels.
