Pacific Northwest Section

July 8, 2006

On a sunny, warm Saturday July 8th, 2006, the SNAME Pacific Northwest Section had its annual golf tournament. This year the tournament was held at the Tsawwassen Golf and Country Club www.tee-off.ca/courses/bc244.htm in Tsawwassen, BC, near Vancouver, Canada. We had a record turnout of 24 players. The players were divided into six teams of four players each. We played Texas Scrambles. The first team teed-off at 9 am, and all teams were finished by 2:00PM.

The annual PNW Trophy, sponsored by Lloyd’s North America Inc., went to the team of Param Toor, Bob Bigdnes, Malcolm Barker (Team Captain) and Will O’Neill with a score of seven under par. The winning team also received umbrellas from Lloyd’s and individual trophies. The Closest to the Pin (Hole 6) award went to Will O’Neill. Will won a clock donated by Autoship Systems Corporation. However, the prize giving did not stop there. All golf players received a gift of some sort as the tournament was very well sponsored.

Following the awards ceremony, we had a very pleasant buffet lunch. This fun Saturday ended at about 3:30PM.

(L-R): Ben Thompson, SNAME PNW Section Chair, Malcolm Barker (Team Captain), Will O'Neill, Bob Bigdnes and Param Toor.

The PNW Golf Tournament enjoyed many sponsors this year: Lloyd’s North America Inc. (primary sponsor) and Finnings Inc. (Hole in One unfortunately, no one won the $10,000 prize), BC Ferries, Seaspan Coastal Intermodal Inc., The Western Mariner, Autoship Systems Corporation, Aker Yards Marine Inc, and Pyrene Corporation. We also wish to give many thanks to this year’s organizers.

If you are interested in playing in next year’s tournament, we need to hear from you. Send an email to Mizan Majumder at MMajumder@Coastalintermodal.com or any of the other PNW SNAME executives. Let’s hear from you!
