Renewal
Once again,
the time of year has come to subscribe to, or renew your subscription
to SNAME’s Technical Journals. A brief
description of each Journal is listed below:
-
Journal
of Ship Production has influenced the worldwide development
of ship production engineering. Each quarterly issue contains
a well-rounded selection of technical papers relevant to
ship professionals.
-
Journal
of Ship Research provides access to highly technical
papers on applied research in hydrodynamics, propulsion,
ship motions, structures and vibrations. Many of these papers
bear directly on disciplines outside ship and ocean science
and engineering, such as civil and mechanical engineering,
applied mathematics, and numerical analysis, making it a
valuable tool to professionals in many fields.
-
SNAME’s
Transactions, published annually since 1893, includes
annual reports and papers presented at the Society’s
Maritime Technology Conference & Expo and Ship Production
Symposium, with discussions of the papers and authors’
closures.

United
States Merchant Marine Academy
Launches Master of Marine Engineering Degree Program
The
United States Merchant Marine Academy has launched its Master
of Marine Engineering (MMarE) degree program. The MMarE program
was established in recognition that higher education is vital
to keeping marine engineers ready to face critical challenges,
and that advanced education is an important factor in ensuring
the competitiveness of their employers.
The
program offers a unique opportunity for practicing marine engineering
professionals to advance their technical education and careers
while continuing in their current capacities. The MMarE course
focuses on the application of advanced technical concepts and
skills. It addresses the real-world problems and challenges
facing designers, builders, and operators of vessels, marine
structures, and components. Subject experts teach a 36-credit
combination of core and elective courses in which the concepts
and designs available to the world market are discussed and
analyzed. Through the use of a combination of synchronous and
asynchronous distance-learning technologies, the program is
accessible to all students with access to a computer.
Applications
for the program are now being accepted for the academic year
that will begin September 2007. Additional information is available
at the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s web site:
www.usmma.edu/gradcourse.
