U-166 Wreck Update
This week the NOAA Research
Vessel RONALD H. BROWN is at the wreck of U-166, a Type IXC U-boat sunk in 1942
in the Gulf of Mexico. The multidisciplinary project, led by archaeologists from
C&C Technologies, entails completing a full documentation of the site and performing
additional biological experiments to better understand the circumstances of her
loss and the dynamics of this deep-sea wreck. Click

Scholarship Info Update
Since
1933, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers has awarded many
scholarships for both graduate and undergraduate study. This is to encourage
men and women to pursue studies in the naval architectural and marine and ocean engineering
or closely related fields. United States and Canadian citizens as well as other qualified
international members of the society are eligible for consideration.
Ship operating
and shipbuilding companies, affiliated trades and universities located in all
sections of the country have been notified of the availability of our Graduate
Scholarships. Applications for this program for the fall of 2003 may be obtained
from Society Headquarters. Completed applications should be directed to Mr.
Scott C. McClure, Chairman, Scholarships Committee at 601 Pavonia Avenue, Suite
400, Jersey City, New Jersey 07306, before the closing date of February 1, 2004.

Open House Notices
The State
University of New York Maritime College (www.sunymaritime.edu)
is holding open house tours for interested students and their families.
The next tours are on Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, December 7th.
The college accepts out-of-state and
international students as well as NY State residents. Students from AL, CT,
DE, FL, GA, LA, MI, MD, NJ, NC, PA, RI, SC, VA pay New York State tuition rates.
