Attention
SNAME Student Members!

NEW!
Poster Session at SMTC&E/SPS
in Fort Lauderdale, FL
The
Student Steering Committee has added a new feature for all students
attending the SMTC
(Annual Meeting), called the POSTER SESSION.
The goal of the poster session is to allow any student,
graduate or undergraduate, to make a poster regarding
his/her research, thesis, ship design project...etc. and allow
other individuals to comment on his/her studies, ask questions,
and get the project out there. The poster session is scheduled
to run on Friday, October 13 (Yes, Friday the 13th!) as part
of the Student
Program. The only requirement is to have a 4 foot by 5 foot
poster describing your work (pictures are optional and fun).
We
want to generate as many posters as possible!
If
you are going to participate in the poster session, please contact
Carrie Gonsoulin, Student
Steering Committee (SSC) Secretary/Treasurer. Carrie needs your
name and poster title by September 22 at 5:00 PM. |

Are You Looking for Professional Liability Insurance?
|
A number of members of SNAME have inquired
about Professional Liability Insurance as a membership benefit.
We would very much like to offer this, but – until now
– have had no success in identifying an agency or underwriter
that provides such coverage in our members’ lines of business.
We
now have a promising lead, and we need the help of a number
of interested members to respond to this agency, which has asked
a few questions regarding members’ financial matters to
help them begin to define what coverage they could offer and
at what price. We will keep your identity confidential.
If
you can help, please respond by email to the Membership Manager
so that we can share those questions with you: nostin@sname.org.
We – and other members – would be very grateful.

Revolutionary Wavepiercing Trimaran
to Set World Record using Alternative Fuels
|
|
Earthrace
is the world's first major powerboat record to be attempted
using only alternative fuels. The boat is powered by 100% biodiesel
burned in two low emissions diesel engines, and built with high
tech composite materials used in military aircraft, the boat
has a unique wave-piercing hull designed to slice through waves.
Earthrace is a bid to break the world record circumnavigation
of the earth, but using only biodiesel, and also to build awareness
for sustainable alternative fuels such as biodiesel. For more
