NTUA Students

The Mid-April issue of the SNAMeNewsLetter featured an article regarding the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) student's visit to SNAME Headquarters. Now, the students have written to us:

Dear Mr. Kimball,

On behalf of my fellow students of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, I would like to thank you and of course all SNAME’s employees for the kind welcome to our group. The visit at SNAME was very interesting and we did obtain valuable information on the Society itself and the ongoing research and technical projects. Many of us took advantage of the time we spent there and became members of the Society, acknowledging the benefits of the membership…

I would like to thank you once again for accepting our group at SNAME. Please give all SNAME’s employees our greetings and gratitude. We look forward to see you again.

Sincerely yours,

Achilleas Gavriilidis
NTUA/NA&ME

Mississippi Ironclads
television documentary film

A 30-minute television documentary currently under development will examine the role that engineer James B. Eads played in building the first US ironclad gunboats during the American Civil War. Eads is perhaps better known for his steel-arch bridge spanning the Mississippi River at St. Louis. But a full month before the historic naval battle between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia (ex-Merrimac), Eads’ City Class ironclad fleet was engaging Confederate river forts.  To learn more about this project visit http://mf.ecatalogpages.com/news.htm.
