SNAME Maritime Technology Expo
Exhibitor Innovation Sessions

Building on the success of last year’s Innovation Sessions, SNAME is pleased to announce the return of this exciting program in 2007. In response to positive feedback from exhibitors and attendees alike, the SNAME Maritime Technology Expo, scheduled for November 14-16, 2007 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, will once again feature presentations on new products and technologies in a special lecture-style area of the Expo Hall.

Held during the coffee breaks and lunch breaks in the Expo Hall when all conference attendees are present, the Innovation Sessions are an opportunity for exhibitors to informally present their products and technologies to SMTC attendees in small areas in back of the Hall.

Reserved only for SMTC&E exhibitors, the Innovation Sessions present an additional marketing opportunity. Exhibitors are encouraged to take advantage of their presentations by inviting key clients and potential customers. Expo invitations and passes will be mailed to exhibitors in August, allowing time for use in marketing direct mail to encourage attendance at the Expo.

Details:

  • 20-minute segments, with 10 minutes for Q&A, for a total of 30 minutes maximum per session.
  • 16 time slots available:
Thursday, November 15:
11 am - 11:30 am
11:30 am - 12 pm
1 pm - 1:30 pm
1:30 pm - 2 pm
2 pm - 2:30 pm

Friday, November 16:
8:30 am - 9 am
12:30 pm - 1 pm
1 pm - 1:30 pm

  • Although these presentations will not be formally reviewed, SNAME must reserve the right to refuse any that do not seem appropriate, and will rely on the exhibitor’s and presenter’s own standards of professional behavior to make close supervision unnecessary.
  • Brief abstracts must be submitted to SNAME HQ to Brenda Elmore-Feliciano at belmore@sname.org.
  • As there is a limited number of slots available, they will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. A confirmation will be sent after each abstract is received. Two additional presentations will be selected as standbys.

Please let me know if you have any questions on this exciting opportunity for exhibitors to inform and educate maritime professionals attending the SMTC&E and SPS about new products and technologies.

The New SNAME Texas Section
Young Professionals Club

In late November of 2006, the SNAME Young Professional Task Force was formed to pave the road for a new asset to SNAME and its members. The challenge was to stimulate membership among younger members (35 and younger). The group, consisting of several young SNAME leaders from across the nation, set out on a mission to form a number of Young Professional programs on the local section level. The first of these was created by members of the Texas Section.

On March 8, 2007, the first organized gathering of SNAME Young Professionals was held, and the SNAME Texas Young Professionals Club (TXYPC) was formed. The event, held at the Fox and Hound in Houston, was a huge success!! About 40 people attended throughout the night, which is one-third of all Texas Section Young Professional members!! The attendees were enthusiastic about the event, and provided excellent feedback and ideas for future events. Fifteen individuals volunteered to be on the TXYPC planning committee to help organize future events.

May 23, 2007
Norfolk, VA

Description: An introduction to the newly-revised ASTM F1166: Standard Practice for Human Engineering Design for Marine Systems, Equipment and Facilities will be provided.
