We're Keeping the Window Open!

The saying goes, when a door closes a window opens …. We have left the “window” of membership renewal opportunity open for you! Renew now and avoid having your name dropped from the membership directory, and being assessed with reinstatement and other fees. You can still go online to renew, but soon that window will close.

The by-laws (B3-7) of our society state “If dues become three months in arrears as of March 31, membership ceases” and is then subject to reinstatement fees as outlined in B3-8. If you have NOT renewed your membership for 2006, we need to hear from you no later than April 28, 2006, to ensure that you can continue to take full advantage of the many privileges and benefits of SNAME membership.

Membership in your professional society is recognition of your status in the industry. This is your opportunity to participate in, contribute to, and maintain the body of knowledge of your chosen profession.

Don’t miss the next issue of Marine Technology, access to the “members only” section of the website, discounts on publications, conferences, and local section meetings. Avoid reinstatement fees. Renew today.

To renew your membership, kindly

  • Call the SNAME Member Services Dept. 800-798-2188 (Canada & USA), or 201-798-4800 (outside of North America)
  • Visit the SNAME website and Renew now – click here

SNAME Member Value Survey is Underway

You should have recently received a hyperlink to the 2006 SNAME web-based member values survey. If you have not yet taken the time (approximately 20 minutes) to fill it in, please remember to go back to that email and do so. Our future service to you and the maritime industry depends on your feedback.

Thank you to all who have submitted their comments and opinions via this survey. As of early this week over 1,300 members have responded! We are obtaining some great information that we’ll be analyzing and acting on over the coming months. A summary of the results will be shared with all.

Also remember, SNAME will have a random drawing to award one year of free membership to three lucky respondents. The winners will be announced in the next edition of SNAMeNewsLetter. We will additionally provide $250 for the local Section that encourages the largest percentage of its membership to participate.

Sincerely,

Dr. Roger Compton
President, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers

Alert! - Issue # 11
The International Maritime Human Element Forum

Integrating the human element

There is no shortage of discussion about the human element and its contribution to the efficient and safe operation of ships. But the ship is a complex system into which those who will operate her will be integrated, not merely adapting themselves to the design. Seafarers should not “just fit in where they can” around the operational demands of the ship. Click here to read more. Within the T&R Program, SNAME maintains Panel O-38, Human Factors, which is actively engaged in these issues.
