Scholarship Fund Raising Appeal - Last Call for 2007

As the Dues Renewal period draws to a close, please remember that if you haven't yet made your 2007 contribution to the SNAME SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, next year's scholarship applicants will be very appreciative of your generosity if you take this opportunity to do so. The Society's leadership is trying to respond to the many requests from today's students for more scholarship support. Most of the Scholarship Program funding comes from the Society's operating budget and the generous support of the membership continues to be important in making this possible. Only three scholarships are currently endowed with three more in the fund raising mode; the funding of undergraduate scholarships at the various U.S. and Canadian universities with naval architecture, marine engineering and ocean engineering programs all comes from this budget.

A recent study of higher education costs noted that over the past 20 years inflation has increased costs by 84% while the cost of tuition in both public and private universities has increased by more that 240%. Most students today are heavily burdened by personal debt when they complete their studies. There is a continuing need for young professionals to enter the field and the need is only expected to grow larger in coming years.

There are several SNAME scholarship funds that need your continuing support. They include: graduate scholarships in honor of Wilbur N. Landers, William M. Kennedy, Tommy L. Richards, Alan C. McClure and John V. Wehausen and undergraduate scholarships in honor of Mandell and Lester Rosenblatt and Robert N. Herbert. Your generous support will be greatly appreciated by tomorrows awardees and industry leaders.

" Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance " product for Canadian SNAME members

There are a lot of good reasons why you may need life insurance. Protecting your family’s financial future is one of them.

As an adult, it’s your responsibility to protect your loved ones and those who depend on you by ensuring you have adequate insurance in place. Without it, your family could end up facing long-term financial hardship, should the unexpected occur. Still, it can often appear too expensive or too difficult to purchase all the protection you may need. Click here for more info.
