SAWE Conference

The International Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE) is holding its Annual International Conference May 15-19, 2004.

SAWE is a non-profit organization founded during 1941 in Southern California. Its purpose is to promote recognition of mass properties as a specialized discipline, serve as a medium by which members can exchange and publish mass properties techniques and state-of-the-aft improvements, and encourage the design and manufacture of optimum weight equipment.

Volunteer Judges Needed for
DC-Area Science Fairs

Each year the ASNE/SNAME Committee on Environmental Engineering solicits volunteers to serve as judges at various regional science and engineering fairs. The Committee finds judges, gives them really nice plaques, and empowers them with the authority to award plaques to students who show promise in marine environmental engineering. You do not need to be an environmental engineer to serve as a judge. All you need is a big heart and the goodness to spend a few hours one Saturday morning giving back to the community. And this is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community. The kids get a lot out of it (both from working on their projects and from the judging process), and the folks who serve as judges walk away with the satisfaction of knowing that they have done something meaningful. And often the folks who serve as judges walk away better educated. After all, some of these kids are very, very smart. Please click here for more information.

OTC - Advances in LNG

LNG is the topic of discussion during an OTC General Session and two technical sessions planned during the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), 3-6 May, at Reliant Center at Reliant Park in Houston.

“LNG is an important issue for OTC this year,” said Skipper Strong, OTC .04 Program Committee Chairman and Account Manager-ChevronTexaco at Technip Offshore. “During some major OTC sessions, participants discuss how LNG import terminals are moving offshore because of federal land issues, deepwater access for next generation carriers, and access to existing gas pipeline infrastructure.
