Naval
Architecture and Marine Engineering Survey
of Professional Activities and Knowledge
We are asking all SNAME Members to participate in a survey of professional Activities and Knowledge for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME). The survey should take roughly 30 minutes to complete, and does not need to be completed in one sitting. Although the primary purpose of the survey is to update the specification for the US Professional Engineering (PE) Exam in NAME, we are reaching out to all SNAME members to help define our industry, which is truly global in scope.
The Purpose of the PE Examination in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering is to test an individual's level of knowledge, skill, and ability in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and to identify those applicants who demonstrate a minimum level of competence. The PE examination is one of the steps in the professional engineering licensure process. The goal is to develop an examination that will assess an individual's knowledge, skill, and ability at the time of licensure.
In order to reach this goal it is imperative that the examination test the subject areas that are important in common areas of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (breadth) as well as specific areas of the Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering field (depth i.e., engineering mechanics, transport processes, electrical systems, design and production, etc.).
Representatives from all of these areas served on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering Survey Panel. This panel assembled the following survey that we ask you to complete.
The NCEES will use the results of this survey to understand and document the field of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. The results of the survey will also be used to help the ongoing development of the PE Examination in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. This examination is provided to licensing boards by the NCEES.
The value of this study is directly related to the number of individuals that return completed surveys. Your response is extremely important to us.
The information you provide will be kept in strict confidence. Group data will be used to describe survey respondents and some categories of background information will be used to analyze the data obtained from the survey.
