 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers annually awards both Graduate and Undergraduate scholarships to encourage study in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering or marine industry related fields. All applicants must plan to study in the U. S. or Canada.

Graduate Scholarship

 Application Guidelines and Procedures:

  1. Open to U. S., Canadian and International applicants.
  2. Study must take place in the U. S. or Canada.
  3. Society membership required one year prior to application.
  4. Awards are made for one year of study leading to a Master's Degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering or in fields directly related to the marine industry.
  5. Graduate scholarships are awarded to an individual once.
  6. Application obtained by written request to the attention of the Chairman, Scholarships Committee, at the Society address.
  7. Application must be received prior to February 1 for review by Scholarships Committee.
  8. Selection in April by Executive Committee approval of Scholarships Committee recommendations.

 Scholarship Value

 Up to $10,000 per year.

  1. At least 6 awards are made annually, four of which are designated as follows:

#1 - The Wilbur N. Landers Scholar

#2 - The William M. Kennedy Scholar

#3 - The Tommy L. Richards Scholar

#4 - The Alan C. McClure Scholar

Undergraduate Scholarship

Application Guidelines and Procedures

  1. Open to citizens of U. S. and Canada.
  2. Study toward a degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering or marine industy related fields at one of the following schools:

 Must be entering junior or senior year.

  1. Membership in the Society at the time of the award.
  2. Requests are made directly with schools listed above.
  3. Schools present their nominations in biographical form for each applicant and include statement from student indicating their career goals and why interested in the marine field.
  4. Selection of recipients is made by the colleges in accordance with their established procedures.
  5. Nominations are presented to the Society's Scholarships Committee annually by May 1st for approval by the Society's Executive Committee in June.
  6. Students may repeat as an Undergraduate recipient and subsequently apply for a Graduate scholarship.

 Scholarship Value

Up to $2,000 per year.
