ABSTRACT:
Benefits of Standardization of Process and Modules in Ship Design and Production: An Overview.
Standardization of processes, qualification requirements and equipment to enhance product integration, quality, schedule and cost predictability for highly complex projects is used throughout industry and is also used by the Navy for ship contracts. Validating that the standards result in the desired products is the product of years of iterative experience or R&D. Recent trends have resulted in the abandonment of many standards or the failure to maintain standards to the state of the art. The effects on ship acquisition will be addressed.
