ABSTRACT: The Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC) Program
The Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) currently provides the ability to launch amphibious operations from points over the horizon to and beyond the beach; however, the LCACs will reach the end of their operational service lives within the next few years. The Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC) will be the replacement craft for the LCAC program, with improved performance in the areas of lift, range and reliability. SSC addresses the capability gaps that exist in the mission of providing ship-to-shore transport of joint forces within Ship-to-Objective Maneuver (STOM) and other assault and non-assault (e.g., humanitarian) operations launched from sea bases. This presentation briefly describes the SSC Program, its history to date, and the application of Set-Based Design principles to optimize the design within constraints.
