Colin Shields, CHAIRMAN 

   

Colin Shields is currently a senior at the University of Michigan graduating in June 2013 and will be continuing at Michigan as a Ph. D. Pre-Candidate. He is currently researching naval ship design practices and is working on his senior capstone design project, a flexible Littoral Combat Ship variant. He has spent the last two summers as an intern at General Dynamics NASSCO in the facility engineering and repair production departments as well as spending a month in Hyundai shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea last summer. Colin was the University of Michigan Student Section Chair for 2012 and is the very excited to work with his peers and the professional members of the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering community to benefit all SNAME students.

Allison Oswalt, VICE CHAIRMAN    


Allison Oswalt is currently in her fourth year at Virginia Tech.  She plans to graduate in May of 2014 with a major in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a Minor in Naval Engineering.  Allison has been an active member in SNAME since her sophomore year and is currently the Virginia Tech Student Section Chair as well as recently being elected Vice Chair of the Student Steering Committee.  She is also laying the groundwork for the first SailBot design team at Virginia Tech with hopes of their team competing in the summer of 2014’s competition.



Steven DeBoer, SECRETARY/TREASURER   


Steven DeBoer is a fourth year student studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan. He has been active in Quarterdecck (U of M’s SNAME Student Section) and was last year’s treasurer. He has worked in the recruitment and admissions office giving tours and promoting NAME and SNAME to prospective students. Steven is currently working at U of M’s Marine Hydrodynamics lab and enjoys assisting in tow tank testing such as calm water resistance tests, seakeeping, and propeller tests.


Originally from Mount Clemens, Michigan, Steven has been on the water for most of his life. He enjoys water skiing, fishing, and jet skiing. After graduation he hopes to work at a shipyard in the production and planning department to help with the manufacturing from start to finish. Additionally, he does have an interest in continuing his research experience at U of M or a similar facility.



Jonathan Steirer, ELECTRONIC MEDIA CHAIR  


Jonathan Steirer is originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and is currently a sophomore studying Marine Systems Engineering at Maine Maritime Academy. At MMA, Jon serves in the roles of SNAME Secretary, a Resident Assistant, and other officer positions in organizations such as Alpha Phi Omega and the Student Senate.
He has previously spent two months onboard the Academy’s training ship State of Maine and is looking forward to his upcoming summer co-op.
This year will be Jon’s first serving on the SSC and he is eager to fulfill his role as Electronic Media Chair.





Sanjukta Misra, COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR


Sanjukta Misra grew up in Guwahati, India and is currently a senior at Florida Institute of Technology She will graduate in December, 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering and a Minor in Sustainability. Sanjukta has been a SNAME member since 2010 and is also, the secretary of her student section. She volunteers as a research assistant at the Florida Institute of Technology Underwater Technology laboratory and enjoys working with underwater autonomous vehicles. Sanjukta is excited about her role as Communications Chair and looks forward to the challenges ahead. 

Tom Shea, SSS REPRESENTATIVE


Tom Shea is a junior studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (Ocean Engineering) at Virginia Tech.  He is from Annapolis, Maryland and has been involved with the SNAME Student section at Virginia Tech since 2010. This past Fall Semester Tom took on a leadership role as the Treasure.  Recently, he has assumed the position of Student Section Standards Representative in an effort to help establish the goals for the student sections across the country.




Matt Weklar, T&R REPRESENTATIVE


Matt Weklar is currently a sophomore at Webb Institute studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. During his time at Webb he has completed internships with New England Boatworks of Portsmouth, RI and a sea term aboard Kirby Offshore Marine's Articulated Tug Barge the Dublin Sea. He also currently serves as Webb's SNAME student section chair.  In his free time Matt enjoys running and sailing – the latter taking up a majority of his summers up and down New England's coast. This will be Matt's first year on the SSC and he is very excited to serve as T&R representative.
