GIL ROMANO, CHAIRMAN

Gil Romano, is currently a senior at the University of New Or-leans and will be graduating in May 2009. Having grown up on Long Island, he learned to surf and fish at an early age. His family has owned several boats, spending most of their leisure time travelling and fishing the eastern seaboard from Nantucket, Massachusetts to the waters off of Nassau, Baha-mas.  During high school and his first years at UNO, Gil worked as a mate on a variety of vessels, mostly sport fisherman. His long love for the water and boats sparked his interest in naval architecture. While at UNO, he has served as the Treasurer, Vice Chairman and Chairman of their SNAME Stu-dent Section, Vice President of the Engineering Student Leadership Council, and is a member of their Electric-Boat Team. He currently works part-time as an intern with Elliott Bay Design Group in their New Orleans office. While not at school studying or working with Elliott Bay, he can often be found fishing off the small Bahamian islands of Bimini. Future plans include finding a full-time job, getting his PE license, and owning his own naval architecture firm and/or shipyard.

Morgan believes that NA&ME is a wonderful field to be in because of the quality of people involved, and is looking forward to working with his classmates and peers in the future as well as the industry leaders of today. The majority of Morgan’s life is spent inside the NA&ME design lab. With no spare time his former interests were engine repair, large bonfires, self produced pyrotechnic displays, camp-ing, boating of all forms, shooting sports and sleeping. Morgan enjoys volunteering as an adult leader for his local scout troop as well as with disabled children at his church. After gradua-tion, Morgan will likely attend graduate school at the University of Michigan.
