Stony Brook, NY, where he first found his long-time passion for testing
model boats. During a period of temporary insanity, Stephen earned a
degree in geology and geography from SUNY Buffalo. He then traveled all
over the US, ultimately finding himself as a geologist in Tucson,
Arizona. After prolonged exposure to the desert sun, he regained his
sanity and decided to pursue his childhood dream of building boats. He
returned to school and graduated with honors with an Associates of
Science from Pima Community College and transferred to the University of

in Naval Architecture. He is also the chairman of the SNAME Student
Section at UBC and works in an engineering capacity for a leading

time he dreams of circumnavigating Vancouver Island in the 17 ft wooden
kayak he built three summers ago. Sometimes on the weekends, he can fit

bike. His future plans include acquiring a PE licence and starting his
own naval architecture design firm.
