MATTHEW UNGER, CHAIRMAN  

Matthew Unger is currently a Naval Architect at Seaworthy Systems, Inc. in Essex, Connecticut. He earned a B.S. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute in 2004, and M.S. degrees in Naval Architecture and Ocean Systems Management from MIT in 2006. Matt served two terms as the SSC Chairman (2004 – 2006). He has interned at SNAME headquarters, served as the Chairman of Webb Institute’s SNAME Student Section and was the SSC Vice-Chairman. He is an avid boater and sailor and enjoys traveling and reading. Matt attributes his involvement with SNAME as a student with helping to jump start his career. He hopes to continue helping SNAME Student Members as an advisor to the SSC.

 

JARED LEIGH, VICE CHAIRMAN  

Jared Leigh is currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan , studying concurrent design and marine systems management. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in June of 2003. Prior to beginning classes at Michigan this past fall, Jared has spent two years working as an Engineering Officer on several different commercial and military sealift ships. This has been an incredible opportunity, where he has applied his engineering knowledge and leadership ability while traveling the world. Jared will graduate from Michigan with a masters degree in April of 2006. After graduation, he intends to upgrade his USCG license and begin employment with a Naval Architecture firm. Future goals are to earn his PE, obtain an MBA, and possibly start his own consulting company one day. Jared's hobbies are sailing, skiing, wake boarding, kite boarding, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, traveling, and basically anything else related to being outdoors.

 

CARRIE GONSOULIN, SECRETARY/TREASURER  

Carrie Gonsoulin is currently majoring in Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech. She has been a part of SNAME for the past 3 years, serving as the SSC Secretary/Treasurer, VT Chairman and a current SSC Advisor. She participates in the Education Committee and liaison to a new ASNE national student section. She hopes to become SSC Chair in the coming year. Carrie enjoys everything outdoors; including camping, hiking, water skiing and sailing. She loves volunteering for the rescue squad, watching movies and spending time with her friends.
