22 SNAME members and guests met in Acergy’s offices in Stavanger, Norway on the 3rd of September. Three technical presentations were given, and will be uploaded to the library when made available by the authors.

Joar Gangenes and Fredrik Matiesen of Acergy presented the saturation diving system onboard the “Acergy Havila” currently under construction. The 24 man diving system will be the largest and most advanced of its kind and the vessel is designed to dive in up to 6 m significant waves. The presentation also contained an insight to the test program the diving system has been through at Marintek.

Professor Sverre Haver of StatoilHydro / NTNU / UIS gave a presentation on ocean wave statistics; “Prediction of Characteristic Responses for Design Purposes”. The presentation demystified the environmental contour line method used when calculating extreme responses on Norwegian sector.

Endre Bøen from TeeKay presented their latest DP2 shuttle tanker fleet additions, the Amundsen class. These four newbuilds have several novel “green” features, including systems for reduced VOC emissions.

We had participants from a large variety of companies; ship owners and operators, engineering companies, classification societies, subsea contractors and oil and gas majors. We have received very good feedback on the venue and the variety and contents of the presentations. The next meeting in Stavanger is planned held on the 26th of November.
