Glenn is a believer in serendipity. After 20 years service in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Marine Systems Engineer, he decided to step out of uniform and into industry. Glenn felt confident that he had established and maintained a strong professional and personal network within the naval and defence community. Glenn found it ironic that after his twenty years service to the Navy, it took only a few SNAME ECS evening presentations to realize that Canada also had a strong marine sector dealing with the Arctic, Offshore, Coast Guard and Great Lakes Shipping.
With SNAME ECS, Glenn has reached out to the larger marine technical community by organizing key local events such as “Battle of the Atlantic” evening at the national war museum in 2007 and “Arctic Challenges” at the Museum of Civilization in 2008. Recent time has been invested in a series of "Lunch and Learns" for the Young Professionals. Glenn applauds the support received by fellow SNAME members in encouraging big audacious ideas to be translated in to executed events. As an example, Thomas Lamb left the safety of Seattle to brave the snows of Ottawa to conduct a local Design for Ship Production workshop in Ottawa in March 2011. Peter Noble and SNAME HQ continue to provide great support as will be demonstrated at MARITECH 2012 in Ottawa, 10/11 April 2012.
As Director Systems Engineering, Glenn continues to work in his area of passion, submarines. Glenn is thankful for the continued support of SNAME member, Michel Bouchard, President, Babcock Canada. Glenn notes as the company has grown from 1 to almost 200 over the past four years, more than a few hires have come through the SNAME network.
