Kate was raised in Marblehead, MA, and grew up dinghy racing and cruising the New England coast. Her family's move to Maine led her to attend the University of Maine, where she received her undergraduate degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and her Master's in Mechanical.  Her Master's research involved working with a team composed of the Advanced Structure & Composites Lab at the University of Maine, Maine Marine Composites and Hodgdon Yachts to redesign the hull of the Navy's Mark V patrol craft.  The goal was to change the hull shape and hull materials to significantly reduce the slamming loads transmitted to the crew.  It was this experience at the University that led Kate to pursue a career in the marine industry.

With that in mind, Kate went to work for Bath Iron Works after graduation in 2007.  She works in the noise, shock and vibration group designing large equipment foundations to withstand shock loads.  Her work involves complex numerical simulations of ship structure, using various FE codes and analysis methods.  She derives a lot of satisfaction from her work, and enjoys both the technical challenge of the projects she is involved in as well as the opportunity to help build ships for the Navy.  Her brother is in the Naval reserves, and the ability to do work that benefits the sailors is important to her.  This spring she obtained her PE license.

Kate has been a member of SNAME since she started working at Bath.  She has served as the Membership Chair and the YP coordinator of the NE section since 2010, and as of this year is serving as the NE section vice chair.  She sees the main value of SNAME membership in the professional development opportunities it has provided her.  She has made many professional contacts in the field that have served her well with training opportunities and guidance.

Currently, Kate resides in Topsham, Maine with her wonderful husband, Ryan, who is also an engineer.
