Annual Meeting

The SNAME Annual Meeting Papers Committee is looking for timely archival-quality papers on any subject related to Naval Architecture, Marine and Ocean Engineering, with preference given to those addressing the topics mentioned in the current Call for Papers. The papers are subject to a rigorous peer-review process, and discussions by leading experts are actively solicited. Selected papers are published in the Archival Papers section of the annual SNAME Transactions.

Reviews are being processed through ScholarOne website for the first time this year. "Extended abstracts" are reviewed by the entire Committee and a final selection is made in a teleconference. Each accepted abstract is assigned a "lead reviewer" who is a member of the Committee. Lead reviewer selects two or more additional reviewers. Reviewers are contacted through ScholarOne site. For the moment we are retaining the "double-blind" review process. The reviewers fill out a standard review form, and are encouraged to include detailed comments to help the author improve the paper. Reviews are coordinated by the Lead Reviewer, who handles correspondence with the author. The draft paper may be accepted, rejected, or returned to author with reviewers' comments. Additional drafts/reviews are prepared as deemed necessary by the Lead Reviewer and Committee chairman. Other papers selected by the Papers Committee for publication in the "Archival Papers" section of the Transactions may not have been double-blind peer-reviewed, since some are selected from other symposia and/or publications. In that case, those papers must undergo the double-blind peer review (and, if necessary, any revision) before being published in the Transactions. Types of papers: The Committee considers all contributions whether or not they fall under the areas mentioned in the Call for Papers. We look for topics that are of sufficiently general interest to merit presentation at the Annual Meeting, from any discipline related to Naval Architecture, Marine and Ocean Engineering.

The Ship Production Symposium

The Ship Production Symposium, hosted by the National Shipbuilding Research Program and SNAME, is an annual symposium that presents original and timely technical papers addressing problems of shipyard techniques and production of merchant and naval ships. It is a forum to discuss the worldwide development of ship production engineering, ship design (including design for production) and other marine technology topics, such as ship operations, shipping economics, and safety.

Each abstract is evaluated on ship production fit, current relevance of topic and overall quality. Evaluation and acceptance are determined by the Ship Production Committee. Once an abstract is accepted, authors are required to submit a paper or presentation for review and feedback by the Ship Production Committee member that is a shipbuilding industry expert on the paper/presentation topic. Feedback is returned to authors for incorporation into their final draft of the paper or presentation that will be presented at the symposium. A paper or presentation session is moderated by a Ship Production Committee member and includes an oral presentation and facilitated discussion amongst attendees.
