With multiple programs and nearly 200 subgroups (Sections, Standing Committees, T&R Committees, T&R Panels, etc.) SNAME is very diverse organization. Content in the Directories pages helps members and nonmembers contact individual members and understand the organization of the Society.

Membership Directory

The Member Directory is one of the most valuable benefits of SNAME Membership and available only to members.

Members can use a simple search to locate members by name or employer or advanced search options to find members by areas of interest, years of membership, member type, and many other criteria.

Standing Committees

All Committee activities are under the purview of the SNAME Executive Committee & Council. The Executive Committee supervises and directs the day-to-day affairs of the Society, in accordance with the strategic direction and policies defined by the Council. The affairs of the Society are governed by a Council chosen from its membership, and the Council shall have full control of the activities of the Society, subject to the limitations of the Society Bylaws.

T&R Committees and Panels

The Technical and Research Committees are the engine by which the Society produces the lion's share of its world-class technical information. By means of the T&R Program, the Society encourages and sponsors maritime research into areas of the ocean sciences, with particular emphasis on marine vehicles and offshore structures. The T&R Program consists of several "T&R Committees" dedicated to general areas of research. "Panels" serve as subcommittees of the T&R Committees to provide more focused research into defined areas. Sections

Sections are the geographically based subgroups of the Society. All members of SNAME belong to a section, and can change sections as they move about their home country or internationally. Sections are governed by their boards, headed by section chairs. Five regions organize the sections in the United States, Canada, and internationally.

Superior sections are recognized through the Super Section honors, which are presented to those Sections that have successfully fulfilled the criteria. Criteria are based on the requirements each Section should meet throughout the year, including:
1) Financials sent to HQ by July 31
2) Meeting Schedule for the year sent to HQ by August 15
3) Section has a Membership Chair
4) Section has a Young Professionals Chair
5) Meeting Notices submitted to HQ within two weeks of the meeting
6) Post Meeting reports submitted to HQ following the meeting
7) Attend Council Meetings
8) Representative attends the Chair Elect Seminar
9) Section has a Webmaster and functioning microsite

To encourage Society membership among students and to foster their professional development and growth, SNAME introduced Student Sections in 1977. Student groups are sponsored by an established local Section. An officer or specially designated Executive Committee member acts in the capacity of advisor to and liaison between the local and student Sections. In addition, a representative of the Student Section sits on the Executive Committee of the senior group. Individual Student Sections are established by Sections and overseen by faculty advisors. The Student Steering Committee (SSC) governs all Student Section activity with the advice and support of SSC Faculty Advisor Dr. Leigh McCue. The SSC officers are selected by the Student Members during the Student Congress and Elections at the Annual Meeting & Expo.
