"THE ROLE OF FORMER CANADIAN AND NEWFOUNDLAND ICEBREAKERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SOVIET NORTHERN SEA
ROUTE."

During World War I the Russian Government purchased a number of Canadian and Newfoundland icebreakers and icebreaking steamers to maintain winter
navigation to the vital port of Arkhangel’sk.
