BYLAWS

(October 6th, 2009)

ARTICLE I. NAME

 

The name of this assembly shall be “Florida Atlantic University Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers”.

 

 

ARTICLE II. MEMBERSHIP

 

Each member of SNAME shall be active in the club and show up to meetings and events. If the majority of the meetings are missed, the student is not an active member of the club, therefore, is unable to receive any scholarship opportunities from the National SNAME unless applied through their website individually.

 

 

ARTICLE III. SPONSORING SECTION

This Student Section is sponsored by the Florida Atlantic University Section of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

 

 

ARTICLE IV. OFFICERS

 

SNAME officers shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Social Chair.  There will also be a maximum of two liaison representing the SeaTech Campus in Dania Beach, FL. 

 

ARTICLE V. DUTIES OF OFFICERS

Section 1- Chairperson. The Chairperson shall conduct SNAME meetings and is responsible for organization of the work and activities of SNAME.

Section 2- Vice-Chairperson. In the absence of the Chairperson, the duties of the

Chairperson shall be performed by the Vice-Chairperson. If the office of the Chairperson

becomes vacant, the Vice-Chairperson shall succeed him.

Section 3- Treasurer. The Treasurer is responsible for any financial resources of SNAME and for filling of any financial reports or accountings required by Student Government or by the University. If the offices of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson become vacant concurrently, the Treasurer shall succeed the

Chairperson.

Section 4- Secretary. The Secretary is responsible for SNAME correspondence and shall maintain for the SNAME meetings a roster of attendance and a written summary of the business conducted.

Section 4- Faculty Advisor. The Faculty Advisor is appointed by the Dean’s Office.  He shall be responsible for the proper operation of the Student Section under the Bylaws, policy and guidance of the Society and the sponsoring Section.

 

 

ARTICLE VI- ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Section1- Elections of officers shall be conducted at the start of the Fall semester with positions to be held for one year. In the event an office becomes vacant, a replacement shall be elected at the next Council meeting. Procedures for nominations and elections shall be as determined by the Council.

 

 

Section 2- At least one elected Officer of the Section must have at least two school years remaining at Florida Atlantic University

ARTICLE VII. MEETINGS

 

SNAME meetings shall be conducted in accordance with rules of parliamentary procedure.

ARTICLE VIII. COMMITTEES

 

SNAME may form ad hoc and sub committees, as needed.

 

 

ARTICLE IX. ADOPTION AND AMENDMENT

 

These Bylaws shall become effective upon approval by a majority of the SNAME membership. Amendments may be made at any Council meeting by two-thirds vote of those members present and voting. A copy of any proposed amendments shall be given to each constituent Council organization at least two weeks prior to the vote.
