Officer Anthony Soldavini in frontof USS LCS 102.

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) is the leading professional engineering society for a large spectrum of professionals including military, students, and civilian engineers involved with the many aspects of naval engineering. The organization was founded by a group of naval engineers who wanted a new approach to their profession in order to make the most of new advances in technology. They created ASNE to advance the knowledge and practice of naval engineering, both in public and private practice, to advance the professionalism and understanding of members, and naval engineering in general.

California Maritime Academy's Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) has had a productive history with ASNE. The alliance and cooperative meetings between SNAME's Northern California Section and ASNE’s Golden Gate Section, as well as the ASNE membership through the SNAME Student Steering Committee, provides a significant value to Cal Maritime’s cadets. These joint meetings give students and faculty a greater exposure to military vessels, and Naval Engineering issues encountered by the maritime military services. Now that the Maritime Academy’s MARGRAD program is leaving, involvement with ASNE maintains an important relationship between Cal Maritime and the US Coast Guard, particularly for cadets wishing to enter the service after graduation.
