2007 SNAME Maritime Technology Conference & Expo
and Ship Production Symposium
November 14-16, 2007

Letter from the President of SNAME

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the 2007 SNAME Maritime Technology Conference & Expo and Ship Production Symposium to be held for a second consecutive year in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 Hotel. This combination in conjunction with a first class Expo, and an excellent Technical Program, the Student Technical Program, the Student Design Competition, Annual Banquet, and numerous networking opportunities, will make your attendance certainly worthwhile. Departing from tradition, for the first time the President’s Reception will open the conference on Wednesday evening, November 14, in the Expo Hall where registrants will have an opportunity to visit with exhibitors in a relaxed social atmosphere with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments available.

For the first time the conference will feature two major panel discussions held in plenary session. On Thursday a panel of leaders from the cruise ship industry will discuss some of the major design and regulatory issues that they face, while a second panel, of shipbuilders from around the world, will convene on Friday to discuss their design and construction challenges and proposed solutions. The technical program will include, in addition to the Ship Production Symposium, the Technical and Research Sessions and presentations of peer-reviewed scholarly papers and award-winning student papers. A majority of the sessions in the technical program will carry continuing education credit. The Expo will provide for display of maritime products and services with opportunity for information exchange, sales, and networking. The popular Expo Innovation Sessions will continue.

Ft. Lauderdale is a favorite tourist site and is well known as a great family destination. With an average daily temperature of 77 degrees in the winter and 89 degrees in the summer, South Florida is a sports enthusiast’s paradise. Outdoor activities are endless with more than 60 golf courses, hundreds of parks, miles of coral reefs and of course the ever-present Florida sunshine. Ft. Lauderdale is known as the “Venice of America” due to its expansive and intricate canal system, as well as for its abundant beaches, boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing and cruising… just some of the ways to spend your free time in the area before or after the SMTC&E/SPS’07.

I look forward to welcoming you to the SMTC&E and SPS. Mark your calendars to join us November 14-16, 2007, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Attending the SNAME conference not only provides the opportunity for professional and social interaction with colleagues and friends, it also provides the opportunity to enhance professional development. I hope you are able to join me and your colleagues for what promises to be an exceptional conference.

Sincerely,

Admiral Robert E. Kramek, USCG (Ret.)
