to the regular events of the Conference and
Symposium, students are invited to
attend events that have been designed by students
for students. Over 120 students have annually

STUDENT
SOCIAL & STUDENT CONGRESS DESIGN COMPETITION
“Design/Build/Measurements/Qualifications”
Palm A
1:00pm – 6:00pm
Student
social - For a majority of students this
will be their first chance to meet and network
with other SNAME student members. The student
social is designed to break the ice and allow
students to try out and hone their networking
skills for the first time amongst their peers
in a friendly and social environment.
Design
competition - The creative minds found
in SNAME Student Members are put to work at
the Student Congress. Teams are designed to
have students from all the different schools
represented in each group. This is a great opportunity
for students to get to work with other students
from other schools in the SNAME community. The
teams are faced with the challenge of designing
and building a craft or system to complete a
predetermined task. The students are limited
to a specific set of requirements and materials
which they must bring together in order to compete
for a cash prize. This fun and energetic event
usually draws the attention of many of the members
and exhibitors alike and sparks discussions
with the students and members.

STUDENT
CONGRESS - SSC ELECTIONS/AWARDS/DESIGN
COMPETITION
Palm A
9:45am– 1:00pm
The
Student Steering Committee has gained recent
momentum in the past few years, gaining respect
from many SNAME members. During the course of
the Student Congress, students will be given
the opportunity to vote for the officers of
the Student Steering Committee. These officers
oversee the student events that will happen
in the next year. These officers also work directly
with headquarters to complete any student business
at hand. Some of the recent accomplishments
have been the nominations of students to various
other committees, the student newsletter, the
student online forum, and a position on the
executive committee. The SSC is a great way
for students to get involved nationally.
Throughout
the year, students participate in design contests, both
nationally and internationally. Awards are presented on
Thursday morning to the recipients who attend the meeting.
Design competition
- time will be dedicated for final touches on the designs.
Conference
registration badge required.
STUDENT
POSTER DISPLAY
Expo Hall D
12:00 Noon – 5:30pm
The
student poster session is a great opportunity
for students to showcase their hard work in
the areas of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
Many students are currently doing research and
investigative studies on various topics in the
industry. The poster display allows those individuals
or groups of individuals to show other students,
professors and industry professionals the results
of their hard work. Some previous topic areas
have included senior design projects, human
powered submarine competitions, Lysnik design
competition, the International design competition
series, along with undergraduate and graduate
research. The poster session is not limited
to student lead research but is open to any
research or activity in which students participate.
If you would like to participate or have your
students participate please contact Lauren
Daly for further information.
Conference
or Expo registration badge required.

outside of the classroom. The student job fair
is designed to be an informal gathering of students
and employers looking for the best rising stars
that SNAME has to offer. Many employers are
seeking students for full time new hire positions
and intern/co-op positions. We encourage students
to dust off there resume and bring extra copies
to hand out to many different employers in the
Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean
Engineering, Naval Engineering, and Offshore
Technology sectors.
If
you are an employer and would like to participate
in this event please contact Clark
