2005
SNAME Maritime Technology Conference & Expo
and Ship Production Symposium
October
19-21, 2005
Houston, Texas
Letter
from the President
Dear
Members and Colleagues:
I
cordially invite you to attend the 2005
SNAME Maritime Technology Conference & Expo and Ship
Production Symposium. Once again, the
SMTC&E will be held in conjunction with the annual Ship
Production Symposium – a proven winning combination.
This year’s conference will offer an outstanding Technical
Program, along with the President’s Reception, Student
programs, Expo, and other events, giving us the opportunity
for professional and social interaction with colleagues and
friends. All events will be held in the George R. Brown Convention
Center connected via skywalks to the Hilton Americas-Houston
Hotel. This will provide convenient access to all activities
associated with the SMTC&E and SPS.
The Technical Program will consist of SNAME Technical Sessions,
Ship Production Symposium, T&R Session, Texas Section
Offshore and Energy Transportation Technical Sessions, and
Student Congress Activities.
There are a total of 77 sessions scheduled for technical paper
presentations which are the essence of our Society’s
annual meetings. The jam-packed lineup of sessions consists
of 7 for student papers, 25 for SPS papers, 25 for SNAME-refereed
papers on current subjects of interest from the broad spectrum
of naval architecture and marine engineering communities,
and 20 papers focusing on LNG transport and the broader offshore
industry provided by our host, the Texas Section. Concurrent
tracks will be necessary to permit all of these stimulating
papers to be presented with time for prepared and spontaneous
discussion (strongly encouraged!).
Presentations on new and innovative production, design, operations,
and innovative product and system technologies will provide
opportunities for professional development and will expand
your knowledge base. The Expo will gather the best maritime
products and technologies in one location for information
exchange, sales and networking.
Houston, Texas is not only the fourth largest city in the
United States, it is a leader in business, entertainment,
the arts, and more; from professional sports to an out-of-this-world
space experience and incredible dining. They’re all
there in Houston. Space City offers everything from breathtaking
museum exhibits to vibrant downtown Houston entertainment.
Houston is a city of infinite possibilities, and I encourage
you to visit some of these places of interest.
I
look forward to welcoming y’all to the SMTC&E and
SPS in Houston, Texas. It promises to be an exciting conference,
incorporating the exchange of relevant technical information
with networking opportunities.
Sincerely,

Roger H. Compton
President
