2012 Student
Design Competition
Sponsored by Netsco
The 2012
Student Design Competition allowed students from different schools all over the
world and of different skill sets to work in teams and create a vessel based on a set of pre-determined criteria. Following the design period, each team entered their vessels in a competition against one another.
Previous
years have required students to observe and carry out the basic fundamentals in
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, including
topics such as:
- Loading
- Ballasting
- Displacement changes
- Efficiency
- Unfavorable conditions
- Maneuverability
- Team Work
This year,
students worked together to solve one of the year's biggest controversies in
the Marine Industry - the Costa Concordia. Cash prizes were awarded to the winning teams as well
as bragging rights for the next year.
