*Note: All sailors MUST fill out and submit a sailing resume and waiver to Scott McClure prior to the Regatta.  If forms are not received, you will not be able to sail.

NOTICE OF RACE


1. RULES The regatta will be governed by the J22 rules and the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 – 2012 (RRS), except as modified by the Sailing Instructions or the Appendices to the Sailing Instructions.

2. PERSONAL FLOTATION USCG Approved PFDs are required to be worn by all individuals at all times while underway.

3. ADVERTISING Boats will be required to fly their sponsor’s burgee on the back stay during all races.

4. TEAMS Team members for each boat will be assigned by the organizing authority according to skill level in order to balance the teams.     Each participant shall complete a sailing experience form to allow the organizingauthority to assess their skill level.  Groups wishing to enter as a team may, upon paying the appropriate fee, name three members. The fourth member will be assigned by the organizing authority. Organized teams wishing to have a company name on their boat may also sponsor that boat (see the regatta sponsorship form or contact Scott McClure (scottm@acma-inc.com).

5. ELIGIBILITY This regatta is open to registered participants of the 2012 SNAME Annual Meeting and Expo. Eligible members may enter by completing the entry form at www.SNAME.org and paying the required fee. Participation is limited to 40 and will be determined in order of received registration.

6. FEES Entry Fee (includes regatta entry, transportation, lunch and dinner):
             Individual Entry $225/person (boat assignments will be made by the organizing committee)
             Boat Sponsor Entry $1,100 (includes one boat position, remaining members assigned by the organizing committee)
             Boat Team Sponsor $1,600 (includes burgee and 3 boat positions with fourth position assigned by organizing committee)
             Student Entry $100/person (Team assignments will be made by the organizing committee)

7. SCHEDULE
7:30 am bus departure from the hotel. It is a 45 minute drive to the Newport Sailing Center for arrival at 8:15 am
8:30 Skippers’ Meeting. A representative of each team shall be present for the Skippers’ meeting.
Rig boats and leave harbor for 10:15 First warning. 
No warning after 3:15pm to ensure the boats are back in the harbor by 4:30
Bus departs for Herreshoff Museum at 5:00
Reception/Awards 5:45
Dinner at 7:00
Bus departure at 9:30 back to the Hotel

Schedule may change as noted in the Sailing Instructions or during the Skippers’ meeting.

8. BOATS Boats will be supplied by Sail Newport and will be J22s. Spinnakers may be rigged depending on weather conditions, as determined by the SNAME Cup Organizing Committee, whose decision on their use shall be final and effective for all boats. Boats will be raced as provided. No adjustment to standing rigging is permitted other than as described in the skippers’ meeting.

9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available on race day at the regatta venue.

10. VENUE The regatta will be sailed out of the Sail Newport venue using marks set on race day.

11. THE COURSES The courses to be sailed for the buoy races will be Windward/Leeward. Course length will be such that races will last 45 - 60 minutes.

12. PENALTY SYSTEM Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. In the event of any contact between boats, both boats are disqualified and shall retire of her race scores.

14. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded to skipper and crew for the first four places. In addition, the SNAME Cup perpetual trophy will be engraved with the names of the winning crew. Prizes will be awarded at the dinner following the regatta.

15. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4. SNAME, and Sail Newport, do not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. All participants must complete and sign the Release of Liability form.
