Student Congress & Elections

Which National Leadership Position Would Fit YOU Best?

Run for Office at the Student Congress & Elections

The SNAME Student Congress is the one time each year that the entire body of SNAME Students gathers to make decisions in regards to how the SSC and Student portion of SNAME are run. This is where we select our leaders for the coming year and make changes to the SSC Bylaws which determine how the students are governed. If you have ever wanted to take on a National Leadership Position....this is the place to do it.

CHAIR - "The Leader"
You represent the students on the Executive Council; you are in charge of planning the Annual Meeting and the Student Chair Elect Seminar in June. The Chair facilitates new programs and incentives, builds upon the SSC to represent the Student members, communicates amongst all levels of the Society, solicits and fosters relationships across the organizations in the industry and provides for the Students with an active role in all aspects of membership.  He/She works to create a “legacy” once his or her term is over and allow for the next leader to successfully continue where he or she left off.  This is a perfect position for someone who considers themselves a leader and has big ideas for what SNAME could become now and the future. To run for chair, you must have been an officer at your own Student Section.

VICE-CHAIR - The Second in Command"
In the event the Chair is unable to perform his or her duties, you take over. The Vice-Chair is also responsible for keeping in contact with the Student Sections and maintaining an up to date list of all students with SNAME membership. He/She creates and organizes the Student Design Competition for the Annual Meeting and his or her goal is to increase student participation within SNAME and the SSC through active measures.

SECRETARY/TREASURER - “The Organizer”
The Secretary/Treasurer shall keep the notes of each committee and SSC meeting/telecon – you keep a record of the SSC and SNAME. The Secretary/Treasurer will also work directly with the Vice Chair to facilitate the duties listed above in the Vice Chair description. He/She will also be required to assist the Student Sections with the development of their fundraising and communication amongst the Schools, the SSC, the Parent Sections and HQ. The Secretary/Treasurer will maintain a list of possible speakers/topics of interest for Student Section meetings in an effort to increase student participation, student retention and new student membership.

COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR - “The Voice of the SSC”
The Communications Chair is in charge of correspondence between the SSC and all the student members; you facilitate communication. He/She will produce the SSC Student eNewsLetter that should include both information from the SSC and articles regarding individual Student Sections as well as other interesting information from HQ and SNAME. In addition, he/she will solicit updated contact information from the seniors at each SNAME Student Section to maintain accurate records at HQ post graduation and to help ensure a smooth transition to Young Professionals.

ELECTRONIC MEDIA CHAIR - “The Webmaster of the SSC and Student Sections”
The Electronic Media Chair shall be responsible for maintenance of the SSC microsite and student forum. This person shall also serve as representative to the Electronic Media Committee. He/She is to work closely with the Communications Chair in the distribution and promotion of the SSC  eNewsLetter and pertinent SNAME information over the Internet. He/She is responsible for regularly posting the SSC minutes and notes, updates for the Student Sections, information on SNAME resources (scholarships, programs, etc), events and programs such as the Annual Meeting and to mirror the basic flow of information from the main SNAME website. He or she will also assist other SNAME Student Sections in creating, building and maintaining separate School microsites.
