The Society of
Naval Architects and Marine Engineers invites you, your colleagues and friends
to participate in the SNAME Golf Tournament preceding the 2012 Annual Meeting
& Expo on Tuesday, October 23. The location of the course will
feature the best courses for members and non members to spend a day in golf and
enjoying the camaraderie. I All proceeds raised will
go toward supporting the SNAME Scholarship Fund. The Golf Committee is

preset at the Student Papers track. Similar to the Technical Program,

The SNAME Annual Banquet is always a highlight of the Annual Meeting. Preceded by a hearty and well-attended reception, the banquet is the cornerstone of Annual Meeting activities. Beyond the meal, the Banquet is where SNAME presents its highest awards and honors, including SNAME medals and concludes with the remarks by the distinguished Banquet Keynote Speaker. The 2012 Awards of Achievement to be presented are the Vice Admiral "Jerry" Land Medal "for outstanding accomplishments in the marine field", the David W. Taylor Medal "for notable achievement in naval architecture and/or marine engineering" and the Davidson Medal "for outstanding scientific accomplishment in ship research." Attendees are also encouraged to attend both the Pre-Banquet and Post-Banquet Receptions at no charge.

Footy Yacht Regatta Design &
Competition

As
part of its mission as a professional technical society, SNAME has promoted a
series of design (and build) competitions over the years, which have been
primarily focused on student members and middle and high school students. In a continuing effort to provide creative
stimulus to our members and to the Society will organize the second annual
event which will feature both a design, build, competition and a regatta –
members are invited to build a Footy boat in accordance with the Class Rules. Contestants
will bring their Footies to the SNAME 2012 Annual Meeting and the boats will be
judged in the design-build competition. Awards will be made in several
categories.

The 4th Annual SNAME Cup Sailing Regatta
will be held on Saturday, October 27 with sailing out of Sail Newport in
Newport, RI. The races will be sailed in J22s and with a target of up to 5
races. Transportation to and from the Westin Hotel will be provided, along with
breakfast, lunch and the post-Regatta Banquet. Sail Newport, Inc., founded in
1983, is a non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization. Sail Newport is home to New
England's largest public sailing center and is considered Rhode Island's
premier public sailing site. The day’s event will culminate with a dinner
highlighting the local cuisine, along with entertainment and the trophy
presentation. There is a small fee to attend the reception for non sailors. All proceeds raised will go toward
supporting the SNAME Scholarship Fund. The Regatta Committee is chaired by Scott McClure.
