It is more than fitting that a team representing one of our eight sponsor companies took first place. They overcame the elements and fierce competition to win by the narrowest of margins. Tied on points with the unsponsored team led by Bob McGrath, team STX Canada Marine won top honors by taking first place in two of the five individual races.
But we all have much to celebrate following all the weekend's excitement.

The First Annual SNAME Cup is, in my view,the perfect ending to the SNAME Annual Meeting and Expo. It is only appropriate that members of the world's largest professional society for Naval Architects and Marine Engineers conclude its annual event on the water. Our host, Sail Newport, the generous sponsors, and the staff of the Herreshoff Museum deserve special thanks for making the competition and the wonderful dinner following so memorable. Of course, the SNAME Cup Committee Members deserve special thanks for their work to help us realize this event.
While not everyone could bring home a pewter trophy, all racers, myself included, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Let's do it again next year! |
