“A MODERN PERSPECTIVE OF CONCEPTUAL
AUSTIN KANA, PhD, AMSNAME,
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, & FACULTY ADVISOR
TU DELFT SNAME STUDENT SECTION, THE NETHERLANDS
Meeting to be held at
ABS Europe, Ltd. 1 Frying Pan Alley, London E1 7HR
at 17:30 for 18:15 hours (duration approximately 1 hour)
The talk will cover the current conceptual ship design research happening in the Ship Design Laboratory at TU Delft. Recent advancements in computer modelling have enabled the ability to rapidly generate thousands of low-detail ship design concepts and to simulate vessel life cycle behaviour in the face of uncertain future scenarios. These models have been developed in part to help understand implications of design requirements on both the physical design as well as its life cycle behaviour. However, simply generating these concepts and simulating their behaviour does not immediately provide clear insight to the designer. Data alone is not enough.
Our research is focused on better understanding the data that is generated by these tools to better inform the designer. The goal is to make better decisions earlier on in the design process, even in the face of uncertainty and limited information. We are actively researching modern analysis tools to approach this problem, such as Markov processes, packing based genetic algorithms, and data clustering.
ALL ARE WELCOME
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certificates will be available at the end of the meeting for attendees, if requested in advance.
DUE TO LIMITED CAPACITY OF THE LR AUDITORIUM, PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL TO SECURE A PLACE. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO REGISTERED.
