Global Waves: Looking at Regulatory, Geopolitical and Pressing Challenges Through a Saltwater Lens

A presentation highlighting the basics of the Law of the Sea including maritime boundaries, EEZ, Territorial Seas and current disputes. The presentation will also look at current pressing geopolitical items, such as maritime choke points and ship detainment and sanctions. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the most current and pressing IMO topics and a look at what is on the horizon for shipping in 2020 and beyond. A brief segment of time will be used to inform attendees about the benefits to multidisciplinary approaches and the cross-
pollination of ideas between industries and disciplines, such as maritime law and international affairs, as well as the career opportunities that can compliment marine technical degrees.

Speaker Name & Bio:
Vanessa DiDomenico, Founder & CEO Sea Strategy LLC

Vanessa DiDomenico is currently a J.D. Candidate studying Maritime Law at Tulane Law School. She is a Member of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal: Volume 44. As the Founder of Sea Strategy, LLC, she provides industry insight to maritime companies on regulatory affairs and compliance. She is also a Goodwill Maritime Ambassador for the International Maritime Organization and the Founder of Maritime Coordinates, a youth centered maritime non-profit. Vanessa holds a B.S. from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, a Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering from North Kent College, a M.S. from the State University of New York Maritime College, and a Master of Arts and Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School. Upon graduation in 2020 from Tulane Law School, Vanessa plans to combine her legal, policy and technical knowledge together and believes that a multi-disciplinary approach is critical to solving pressing global challenges.
