High-speed ships require enormous power. Formerly with MTU and MAN Diesel, our speaker Phil Wasinger now represents the German gear manufacturer RENK AG, whose specialty is highly engineered tailor-made gearing solutions for high-performance commercial and naval ships. His presentation will cover aspects of several advanced ship and craft projects he has been involved with, including both U.S. Navy LCS variants and the U.S. Coast Guard's OPC and NSC class cutters. Other applications requiring unique gear solutions such as a test rig for large offshore wind turbines and a torque test rig for the development of gear units for large aviation turbofan engines will also be presented. Each of these transmission systems has its own special demands and Phil will sort the issues out.
