Recent excitement due to expansion of Additive Manufacturing (AM) to produce end use components has led to the growth of a new branch of research occurring at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock Division within Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). AM is opening new design spaces for enhanced warfighting capabilities and enabling on-demand production at the point of need, increasing readiness of the entire Department of the Navy (DON). This talk will discuss efforts to facilitate AM in the DON using NAVSEA as a case study. The presentation will lead the attendee through the organizational alignment of the DON and then coordination and engagement with the various other warfare centers. Various research & development projects and different local and global projects including AM At-Sea and United State Marine Corps efforts will be presented.
