Introduction:
The Chesapeake Section of SNAME supports student sections at both the United States Naval Academy and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU). In past years, the Chesapeake Section has been limited in its ability to support the USNA and therefore has dedicated a significant portion of its support efforts to VPI&SU. This support, coupled with the efforts of the students themselves, has assisted the VPI&SU Student Section to grow significantly and participate actively at the National level. The USNA Student Section has now identified options for receiving Chesapeake Section support and the Section wishes to foster the growth at the USNA that has been observed at VPI&SU. In order to establish a process for a sustainable level of support to both student sections, this policy is established. Execution of this policy will be subject to the continued availability of resources as determined by the Executive Board as part of the annual Chesapeake Section budget process and changes that may occur within each of the student sections and host institutions. Change to this policy is solely at the discretion of the Executive Board. Background:
The different missions and focus of the USNA and VPI&SU naturally mean that there are differences in these Student Sections’ needs, abilities to actively participate, and opportunities to seek additional support for their section activities. The Chesapeake Section seeks to provide equitable, but not necessarily equal support to the two Student Sections. Further, the Chesapeake Section wishes to use this policy to encourage membership in the Society.Student Section Support Policy Details:
