2017-2018 (FY 2018) OFFICERS

 SECTION CHAIR Nicholas Makar earned a BE in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York (SUNY), Maritime College, and holds an unlimited USCG license as Chief Engineer (Steam and Gas Turbine Vessels of Any Horsepower) and Third Assistant Engineer (Motor Vessels of Any Horsepower).  He is presently Regulatory Affairs Advisor at International Registries Inc. – the Maritime Administrators for the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  Nicholas previously worked at American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) as a Principal Engineer, Corporate Regulatory Affairs division, based in New York, and the Regulatory Affairs, Technical and Marine Investigations service areas at International Registries Inc.

 TREASURER George.jpg George O. Williams has a background both as an academic and in the debt capital markets.  After an early career as a theoretical physicist, he moved to Wall Street, where he advised corporate and sovereign borrowers on debt management issues and worked as a quantitative strategist for the global fixed-income markets.  Dr. Williams returned to academics, serving on the faculty of Webb Institute for more than fourteen years where he was Professor of Science.  He has experience in start-up ventures in both the financial and marine arenas and was the CFO of a green marine development firm.  He currently is Director of Marine Technology Integration for AdapTec SA, an international technology company focused on clean energy and water.  He is an Associate Member of SNAME and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
