Virginia Tech invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering.  The department comprises 20 faculty, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Engineering, and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Ocean Engineering.  The Institute for Scientific Information recognized Virginia Tech as the most prolific research university in aerospace engineering for 1994–1998, and the department received the Provost’s Exemplary Department Award in 2000 for successfully integrating research into undergraduate education.  The department’s annual research expenditures are $3.5 million.  The Department Head’s duties include leadership of all department programs and administrative responsibility for planning, fiscal management, human resources, and communications.

 

Required qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a closely related field.  Research and teaching experience must be commensurate with appointment as a tenured faculty at the rank of Professor.  We seek an individual with a commitment to excellence, an ability to work with alumni and diverse groups, and demonstrated leadership and management abilities.

 

Virginia Tech, the land-grand university of the Commonwealth, is located in Blacksburg, adjacent to the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains.  The University has a total student enrollment of 25,000, with approximately 5,300 students in the College of Engineering.
