Message from SSC Chair, Lauren Daly:

SNAME Students,

We have an exciting spring ahead of us! There are a lot of great things going on. First, we are excited to announce the release of our new Student Forum. The student forum is a concept that was developed through the Student Summit. Many students commented that the student program at the SMTC&E was a great opportunity for students to get together and brainstorm about how to have a good section and keep students in SNAME. Last year, with the introduction of the SCES at Saddlebrook, it gave students another time to get together and work on becoming stronger, both as individual sections and one international student organization. With all the great programs, we still had a weakness. Once we went our separate ways, we were not always able to communicate effectively and keep the support going. The introduction of the forum will solve that problem. Thanks to a great effort from Connie Cali-Poutre, SNAME and Brandon Ellingson, the SSC Technology Chair, we have a great way to continue communication throughout the year! The forum will be opened this month, so be sure to check the link below to see what’s going on!

Other things that we are working on are the update of the website, the student program at the SMTC&E and the SCES. The SCES is the Student Chair Elect Seminar. It takes place in Saddlebrook, Florida, at the same time as the SNAME Leadership Training. This is a great time for student leaders to work with each other, local section leaders and national leaders to develop stronger sections. Our main goal is to have more student members that maintain their membership after graduation. The SCES includes one leader from each SNAME student section. The SSC is currently developing the program for this year and looking forward to a strong second year!

These are just two of the many things going on with the SSC right now. I hope everyone enjoys the news letter. If you want to see your school featured in the next newsletter, please submit an article to Brian Peterson at ssc.news.editor@gmail.com. We would love to have articles and pictures from the different sections!

I hope everyone has a great semester. Keep checking in to see what’s going on with the SSC and SNAME !
